ORCA lab inspiring lecture at the Brand New Engineers conference

We’re proud to share that our colleague, Jasna Crnjanski, delivered an inspiring lecture titled “Photonics for Artificial Intelligence and Neuromorphic Computing” at the Brand New Engineers conference, organized by EESTEC LC Belgrade. 🎓

Jasna’s presentation explored the critical role of photonic technologies in overcoming the challenges of modern computing systems. As big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and IoT continue to grow, the demand for computing resources is skyrocketing. However, traditional CMOS-based systems, structured around the Von Neumann architecture, are approaching their scaling limits.

Jasna shed light on the revolutionary potential of neuromorphic computing, which mimics the efficiency of the human brain through hardware based on artificial neural networks. Attendees discovered the possibilities of implementing neuromorphic systems in the optical (photonic) domain and gained insights into the latest results from our research in this cutting-edge field.

We were thrilled to see the lecture delivered to a packed room, filled with enthusiastic students and professionals eager to learn about this exciting topic.

The Brand New Engineers conference is a remarkable platform, bringing students closer to the industry by offering hands-on experiences, real-world challenges, and lectures from top professors and industry leaders. We’re honored to have contributed to this initiative and to inspire future engineers!

👏 Congratulations to Jasna on the full for representing our team and sharing her expertise in this exciting area of research!
